Brewing

From malt and hop to fresh beer

The beer from the breweries is a result of good workmanship. First, the brew master mixes the special treated water with crushed malt. The mash, as the mix is called, is heated and the wort – the sugary liquid – is separated.

The hops are then added to the wort. It is the hop that makes the beer special. For some beer types other ingredients are added, such as spices, herbs, coffee and raw sugar. The wort is brought to the boil and is lightly centrifuged, cooled down, aired and poured in fermenting tanks.

The yeast is added and the fermentation begins.

A week after the beer is cooled down. The aging process is started and can last from a week to several weeks, depending on the type of beer.

When the aging process is finished the beer is filtered and poured on to special made beer tanks. The beer is now ready to flow from the beer taps.

Beer from Nørrebro Bryghus is hand crafted and treated very carefully. Because of this the beer gets a unique and pure taste, with lots of aromas and flavours.

The brew master, in cooperation with the brewers, handles the beer brewing from beginning to end. It is the brew master who decides which type of beer is to be brewed. He also picks out the water, malt, hops and yeast. The brew master consults with employees and guests to get a better understanding of how the beer is perceived and hence develops new ideas.
